If you intend on managing a business from home, you will absolutely need to create your own office space. As tempting as it is to just lie on a lounge chair by your poolside with your laptop, you will not be able to get much done if you work this way. You will need your own area at home where there are few distractions so you can focus on business matters and not on getting a suntan.
A spacious spare bedroom would be ideal. You can place your desk near a window so you can enjoy natural light and plenty of fresh air. If this is not an option, you can always use the attic and transform it into a personal office. Your attic should at least have a few windows. It is not advisable to work in a room that is not well ventilated. If your attic does not have windows, install an air-conditioning system if possible.
The basement is also a good area of the house to transform into a business office. Basements are usually quite dark. You can always change this by installing more or brighter lights. Redecorate your basement if necessary. Paint the walls and have the floors tiled or carpeted. This will make the space more conducive to working. Again, make sure that the room is well ventilated.
When installing a telephone in your home office, it is advisable to get your own private line. This prevents others from interrupting or eavesdropping on your business phone calls. You should also have a receiving area in your office for corporate associates or clients that might drop by. This ensures that you can discuss business matters privately.
